Food Drive Success
Successful Food Drive
We did it again this year! We topped our goal of a ton of food for Kates Kitchen by delivering 2126 pounds of non perishable items over the 2 week period from November 25th to December 12th. We also delivered numerous monetary donations and warm clothing. Thank you to everyone who contributed but a special thanks to the Projects and Engineering Group on the 2nd Floor of The Learning Centre Building as well as the Local 480 Office. Those two groups and their donations were the ones that really put us over the top to achieve our goal. We have collectively made the Christmas Season brighter for those in our community!

Mental Health Week
From May 2nd to 8th Trail Operations celebrated Canadian Mental Health Association’s Mental Health Week with a number of initiatives.
The theme this year for Mental Health Week is empathy. It’s something we all need to understand and demonstrate when it comes to mental health and those who may be suffering. Empathy is the ability to share someone’s else’s feelings or experiences by imagining what it would be like to be in their situation. It’s a simple concept, but it may be the very thing we humans need most. As human beings, we share an ability to imagine what life is like for someone else. To see the world as others see it. To look through someone else’s eyes. When someone is struggling, they don’t always need someone to swoop in and fix it for them. First, they need someone to understand where they are coming from. For Mental Health Week this year, let’s get real about how to help. Let’s stop polarizing and start empathizing. Be there for each other when times are hard and be ready to listen. You don’t have to agree to understand, and you don’t have to fix it to help.
As part of the week, Mental Health Awareness crew talks were offered to all employees as well as onsite appointments with a mental health professional for employees who may be concerned about their mental health. Lastly we distributed over 500 “Mental Health Matters” hard hat stickers to raise awareness with employees throughout the operation.
If you or a loved one are concerned about your mental health, remember there is always help available from a variety of resources. Contact Gord Menelaws, IWL Coordinator if you have any questions or for a list of resources available.

Family Ski Night A Big Hit Again!
Thank you to everyone who attended our family ski night at Red Mountain on February 18th. Over 150 Trail Operations employees, families, and friends enjoyed a great night of skiing and sledding on the hard, slippery slopes. We also thank all of those who sent a note telling us how much fun they had. It’s one of those events with family and friends that give us hope that better days are ahead in a return to normal!
Ski Day Success!
Thank you to everyone who braved some hard, slippery conditions at our final cross country ski day of the year at Black Jack. Congratulations to Megan McQuarrie and Liam Muir who each won a five-time punch pass at Black Jack. We are already looking forward to hosting our ski days again next year!

A visit from Olympic Race Walker Evan Dunfee
Our Inspiring Wellness and Learning Program had the honor of hosting Teck Sponsored Olympic Athlete Evan Dunfee at Trail Operations for 3 days in September. Evan was in town for a BC Summer Games Celebration and we took full advantage of his visit to Trail to put him to work at Trail Ops and in the community. We organised a hike up the Bluffs Trail with our employees and yes Evan took pity on us and walked at our pace!. We took him on a tour of the E&M to let him see how we operate. We organized two Lunch and Learns with Trail Ops employees so they could listen to his Olympic journey, and on the last day we arranged for three elementary school visits for Evan to deliver his message of fitness and commitment. It was a busy week but it was awesome!. Thanks to Evan for joining us and we are looking forward to following him at his next competition!
